Black Mountain Nature Park is the largest park of Canberra's 27 Nature Parks. It is s located really close to the Canberra City. It is covered in native bushland and is a haven to native wildlife. Also this park is the perfect spot for recreation activities, because it has all the facilities for all interest groups. This park is a part of Canberra Nature Park and is a protected area. Many people consider this park as a national park of significant interest in the ecological world with its unique collection of flora and fauna. The Black Mountain has about 4.52 kilometers and is a forested region. This park is known for its pureness and for its beautiful landscapes. If you like Mother Nature than this is the perfect spot for you. For those interested in a true bush walk, there are several different access points through the park including the top of Black Mountain drive. There are plenty places for people to go walking and cycling but all motor bikes are barred from entering the place.
The Black Mountain Nature Park is home for two main features. Then first one is The Black Mountain Tower. This is a well known landmark of Canberra also called Telstra Tower. Rising 195 meters above the summit of Black Mountain, the tower was opened in 1980 and provides vital communication facilities for Canberra. Also, the Telstra tower offers a great picture of the city and its surrounds, including Parliament House, Lake Burley Griffin, and the Australian Institute of Sort and further in the Brindabella Ranges and Mt. Ainslie. There is a small fee to go up the tower and also provides both inside and outside viewing galleries, a telecommunications museum, cafe, revolving restaurant and gift shop.
Another main feature of this park is The Australian National Botanic Gardens. The Australian National Botanic Gardens offer a unique opportunity to enjoy the vast differences in Australian flora. The gardens are maintaining a wide variety of botanical resources for researchers, and also cultivates native plants threatened in the wild. Each Botanic Garden is unique in every way and consists of different types of plants, amazing trees and landscapes. The rainforest is one of the favorite and is the most visited, as are the rock gardens and eucalyptus lawn. In the Botanic Gardens there are also a visitor Centre, which is packed with entertaining and educational videos, leaflets and displays. Family and groups of people are aloud here to have picnic, walk around and other activities you want to do. If you like to read, than there is a library called The Gardens' library, which has significant collections of botanical books, journals, CD-ROMs and maps. Also there are free guided tours of the gardens and are available daily.
