Rodin Museum has the largest collection of works outside of Paris made by the famous French sculptor Auguste Rodin. This museum is situated near the Benjamin Franklin parkway and was built thanks to Jules Mastabum who tried to collect all the works of Auguste Rodin. So in 1929 the building dedicated to this sculptor was completed, in a neoclassical style, Mastabum died but during the years he collected over 124 sculptures of Auguste Rodin. This sculptor was known for its realistic and dramatic sculptures made in marble or bronze. The museum is surrounded by a very beautiful garden that takes you in a very pleasant space , escaping from the noisy crowd of the city.
The sculpture that made Rodin very famous is “Thinker” that lays in the front of the museum. It was created between 1880 and 1882. Enetering the museum you can see the large doors, called “Gates of Hell” which are made in bronze standing at 5,5 meters high. The doors supposed to be used at the Museum of Decorative Arts, and are sculpted with more than 100 figures. Inside the museum the visitors can see a lot of works which are displayed in different rooms. Some of them are “Kiss”,”Eternal Springtime”, “Burghers of Calais”, also waxes, drawings, paintings and maquettes. Many of Rodin’s works were inspired from the Bible or from the Classical mythology, or from Dante’s Comedy.
This museum will fascinate every visitors for its unique and large collection of works that belong to this famous artist. Those sculptures impress through their style and design. And the Rodin’s Garden make the atmosphere even more calm and peaceful. The visitors shoul definitely visit this spectacular museum that is a masterpiece in a very beautiful town.
