Kiev Pechersk Lavra or Monastery of Caves is one of the oldest and  the most important places of worship in the Ukraine and across the former USSR. The monastery was founded in 1077 by St Anton and the caves  were carved by monks who lived here. Today these caves are home to the mummified bodies of monks. Pilgrims can visit these caves and  the underground church. Pechersk Lavra is considered one of the seven wonders of the Ukraine.

Pechersk Lavra is actually an impressive architectural complex consisting of numerous monuments, towers, churches, cathedrals and an underground system of caves absolutely fascinating. Each church in Pechersk Lavra has something special. This only serves to emphasize the fact that man has always had a special relationship with the deity and  the most hidden desires come from God first.

The bell tower of Pechersk Lavra monastery complex is one of the most notable characteristics of the building, being among the main attractions.  The construction is made up of several levels and the golden dome completely changes the skyline of Kiev. The structure of 96.5 meters tall is performed after the classic style lines. At the time of construction, the building was the tallest tower bell, and today deposed many other high structures.

Pechersk Lavra monastery is perhaps the most beautiful building in the city, the golden domes have become a landmark, especially when you do not know exactly what area you are. On sunny days the gold used abundantly shining and immaculate white walls perfectly complement this beautiful image. The interior is as spectacular as the outside, many icons, religious objects with precious stones, paintings, old books transformed it  into a unique place.

Pechersk Lavra is also one of the largest museums in Ukraine in Kiev. The exhibition hosts many architectural relics, portraits and photographs extremely rare. The museum also offers tours to the catacombs, the mummified remains of Orthodox saints.
