The history of Lucca goes up in the times of the Etruscans and Ancient Rome. The golden era of the city was pre Gothic Renaissance, Lucca still has many monuments of that period. Most important area is the old city, surrounded by walls. It is called "the city of 100 churches".
Compared to Florence or Siena, night life is quiet here. Near the southern entrance to town was a nightclub. There are themed nights, divided into age groups, so if you do not take this into account you can wake up surrounded by teenagers of 16-17 years, instead of young people 20-25 years. Most locals go to Viareggio on the coast, where there is a greater variety of night clubs.
