  Castello Brown is a central masterpiece in Portofino, represented by a spectacular fortress of the town. This amazing castle is surrounded by the Mediterranean garden beautified by wonderful flowers, rose gardens, trees, arboretum, that create a very lovely atmosphere. The picturesque landscape is definitely enchanting facing the Gulf till the Baffe tip. It offers breathtaking views over the town of Portofino and over the sea, including the spectacular garden. The Brown Castle was built around the  1000 year, with a strategic position to protect the town from the powerfull attacks and to control the entrance to the inlet. With the passing  years the impossant structure was renovated and extended and became a very impressive building. During the renovation process a roman tower, dating  the II-III century AD was founded to the castle. Since 1961 the castle was used as a place dedicated for exhibitions, owned by the Town of Portofino. It is definitely worth a visit, because it comprises the whole beauty of the Portofino with its beautiful bay, and the surroundings are  stunning for sure.

 

 

  The castle has been decorated in a very special design with unique elements. On the first floor the room is covered by domes that belong to the type of Lombardt,  the centre includes a huge triptuch, while  the right side includes a Majolica stove. The exterior of the building has strong walls that are home to different low sculptures, with architectural furniture made in marble. The room from the first floor also includes original pieces of unique furniture and architectural elements added to a wall designed with Gothic windows. From this room the terrace is easy visible and accesible, and it is the place that once was used for artillery. The castle was named after Consul Brown, who transformed the terrace into an astonished area, veiled by fresh air, where you can spend unforgettable moments, relaxing and enjoying from the picturesque landscape. In the interior of the castle are the  Mojilica stairs that show the Native scenes, featuring a copy of the “Adorazione dei Magi” begun by Gagini, in the 15th century. The interior of the bay’s stairs provides the guests with a magnificent wooden panel ceiling depicting pictures of saints, martyrs and kings.

 

 

  Despite its seniority the treasured castle had a strategic importance during the time. The Consul Brown owned the castle from 1867 until 1949, making it a very trendy and precious place for that time. It was commissioned by the Republic of Genoa, in the 17th century, constructed on the roman foundations. The castle passed through hard years, glorious moments, it housed English and Austrian forces, the army of Napoleon and the forces of the Kingdom of Sardinia. The gorgeous castello offers panoramic views over the town and it is a great spot for the weddings.
