Magnificent sight

The Christ Church Cathedral is a Viking cathedral that was built in 1030 on this site, and in a very short time it became a cathedral under the Benedictines control at the end of the 11th century. The archbishop of Dublin, Laurente O’Toole introduced the canons of St.Augustine, in 1162, that were kept there until the Reformation. The first dean of the church was Robert Castle, the last Augustinian prior. The actual shape of the cathedral dates back to 1180, built under the new program of construction that were controlled by the first Anglo Norman archbishop. In the 14th century to the church was added an extended quire. Later the south wall of the nave was remodeled, that started in 1562 and was completed in 1870. One of the Victorian architects of that time, George Edmund Street, designed an entire restoration on the cathedral , extending and redesigning some parts of the church. As part of the remodelation the cathedral was transformed and decorated in a very amazing style.  To the cathedral was added a bridge, in a very elegant view, that runs across the road, to a new hall, which was constructed to house the General Synod of the Church of Ireland. The new hall now is used as an exhibition describing the medieval Dublin, called Dublinia.
