Julien de Smedt design the structure using innovative techonology with light effects. He named it „NYE Holmenkollen Fyr”, and was made of steel, in order to survive to the extreme weather, in front of the snow and wind. The ski arena is protected from the wind due to a glass facade that covers it.

The new knoll building represented a place for the meeting of the spectators, for the officials, with a restaurant and some other different facilities, oridinally made on the top of the hill, than were moved on the bottom of the highest hill, being as an anchor for the structure. The people are carried to the top of the in-run by an tilted elevator. The platform that is made on the top of the tower is offering an breathtaking view over the wooded Nordmarka, the paradise on the Earth.
