Opatija is a popular summer and winter resort, in Croatia, in Istria northeast, near the port of Rijeka and 84 km southeast of Trieste by train. It is located in Kvarner bay sheltered by mountains Ucka (Monte Maggiore Vojak reach the top 1401 m) and is surrounded by beautiful woods of laurel.
The old abbey, San Giacomo della Priluca, which derives its name from the site was turned into a villa. The entire coastline north and south of Opatija is rocky and picturesque, containing several smaller winter resorts.
