Christ the Redeemer is in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is included in the Seven Wonders of the World. The statue has 102 ft tall and weights 635 tones, situated on the Corcovado Mountain. The statue was designed by Heito da Silva Costa and completed by the French sculptor Paul Landowski. Its construction took 5 years and was inaugurated in October 1931. The statue is made by reinforced concrete with soapstone that give high resistence to the extreme weather.
To get to the statue you have to take the train that makes the connection between it and the city, and goes just on the top of the statue offering a spectacular view over the city. You need to climb 222 steps more to get on the top and to delight your eyes with the dramatical view that is offering to you. From there you can admire the Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, Botanic Gardens. The perfect time to visit the statue is after the sunset when thousand of lights are illuminating the city.
Christ the Redeemer represents the Jesus with open arms that means that he accepts and love all that come to him, this is the main reason for what was buil the statue, to gather everyone who loves God. On july 7,2007 it becomes one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Riding up the mountain you will also walk through Atlantic rainforest that are different from Amazon’s rainforest with an amazing atmosphere. Make sure that you see that waterfalls on the other side of the mountain. This huge statue is the symbol of Christianity and attracts millions of visitors all the year.
