Nikitsky Botanical Garden was inaugurated in 1821, near the Nikita town, 6 km from Yalta. Its founder was a Russian botanist, of Swedish origin, Steven Christian. Designed in a landscape style, with terraces descending to the sea, this botanical garden is one of the most beautiful in Europe. The park is a great open-air museum and includes more than 18,000 species of plants. Nikitsky Botanical Garden is also an important research institute, but also an important tourist attraction. The garden belongs to the Ukrainian Academy of Agrarian Sciences.
Nikitsky Botanical Garden includes the largest herbarium in Europe. There are over 50,000 species, varieties and hybrids of flowers, fruits, olive, subtropical plants, industrial and medical, but also rare species. Besides olive trees, fig trees, pines and walnuts. In addition, the garden also has a copy of The Fountain of Tears and cedars of Lebanon.
The visitors can enjoy exotic fruits and nuts in local cafes. Also, here you can admire the „Orchid Garden" which is composed by more then 50 exotic flowers. There is a cool poll with waret lilies, just to calm your view in the midlle of summer heat. Nikitsky Botanic Garden includes several parks: the Lower, Upper, Seaside Park and Cape Montodor. Geographically, these parks are not related.
Nikitsky Botanical Garden is impressive any time of thr year. In winter when the snow falls, the park is like a fairyland, all the exotic palms and tropical plants are white caps of snow. In late March, there are the first soft light leaves on trees and bushes. In May is the lush flowering period. The entire park from the stunted shrubs to giant trees covered with multicolored carpet of flowers. Autumn in the Nikitsky Garden best time of the year, becouse the nice and pleasant weather. Plants still continue to bloom, at others appears seeds and various colors with natural shapes.
