Kazakhstan is a country located in Central Asia and Eastern Europe. It is the ninth largest country and the largest landlocked country in the world, its territory being larger than that of Western Europe. It shares borders to the north with Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and it is bound by the Caspian Sea.
Kazakhstan Tourist Association (KTA) was founded in 1999, with the approval of the president. The Association is a non-commercial, non-profit and non-governmental organization, and it has as main objective to increase the number of tourists landing directly in Astana or Almaty and encouraging eco-tourism. Taking the following into consideration, tourism in Kazakhstan is currently developing.
The main attractions in the country are: Astana – the capital city; Zailiysky Alatau, Almatinsky - nature reserve with rare species of animals; Kol-Say Lakes - ideal for fishing, Kozha Akhmed Yasaui Mausoleum. Since summers months are very hot and winters are very cold, the best time to travel to Kazakhstan is spring (April-June) and autumn (September-October).
