Located in the Caucasus region of Eurasia, Armenia is set right at the juncture of Western Asia and Eastern Europe and shares borders with Georgia to the north, Turkey to the west, Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and Azerbaijan to the east, and Iran and the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan to the south.
Armenia has a great ancient and historic cultural heritage and significant tourism potential. Tourism has become a major source of income in the economy of Armenia, contributing annually with 6-8% of GDP over the past three years. In 2005, income from tourism industry was of AMD 204 billion, registering a sharp increase from AMD 13 billion in 1999. In recent years, tourism has been developing at a very fast pace, mostly due to the improvement of infrastructure, transportation, services, hotels and travel conditions.
If planning to visit Armenia, make sure to not miss: Holy See of Echmiadzin –a religious/spiritual edifice, Matenadaran Museum, Tatev Monastery, Yerevan - the capital city, one of the oldest cities in the world; Sevan – the largest lake in Caucasus, North Dilijhan – spa resort. Autumn (September-October) is the most beautiful time to travel to Armenia. Ski season is from December to March.
