Portugal is a country located in Western Europe. It is bordered to the north and east by Spain and it is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the south and west. The capital and largest city of Portugal is Lisbon. The archipelagoes of Azores and Madeira from the Atlantic Ocean also belong to Portugal.
The transportation network is continuously expanding and upgrading to ensure a better connection between the north and south. Cultural tourism prevails here, alike in Spain (Roman ruins, medieval art and historical monuments, as well as spa).
If you plan to visit Portugal, make sure to not miss the capital city Lisbon, with many attractions, among which the Belem Tower (1515-1521), the cathedral (XIVth century), Sao Jorge Castle (XIV-XVIth century), and Foz and Mitre Palaces (XVIIth century), bridges over the Tagus river and others; "Portuguese Riviera" with several Atlantic coast resorts (Estoril, Cascais, Oeiras and others). The peak tourist season is from mid-June you until the end of September.
