   Situated between the Schuylkill and Delaware rivers, just across from Camden, New Jersey, Philadelphia is the largest city in Pennsylvania and the fifth largest city in the United States. U.S. birthplace and capital of the nation's original (1790 - 1800), the city was founded in 1682 by Englishman member of the Religious Society of Friends, William Penn, who established a colony in order to "holy experiment" - land of tolerance and religious freedom. Many settlers came here persecuted. Penn named the city with the Greek phrase "brotherly love."

 
   The late nineteenth century Philadelphia was known as the "Workshop of America, because cotton mills, and textile manufacturing plants with steam machinery on land led to the Industrial Revolution. Today, health care, education, medical (one sixth of American doctors are preparing here) and service industries as tourism, finance and insurance and legal services are vector economy. Tehnologoia high technology industries such as medical and electrical components, is increasing.
 
   Many of the most famous attractions of the city is the center of the country: Independence Historical National Park, bell Liberty (Liberty Bell) Independence Hall (where in 1776 Delaratia of Independence was signed) and Constitution Center, honoring States Constitution United. Besides places full of history, "Philly" as locals call it, also has artistic and cultural interests, with a renowned orchestra, world-renowned museums and excellent restaurants. Kimmel Center for Performing Arts is the shining jewel of the city's artistic crown.
 
   Over 100 multi-ethnic neighborhoods give the city a vibrant atmosphere, the rustling of the Italian market to African American festivals and jazz clubs and blues in traditional Amish communities that sell products and foodstuffs in Reading Terminal Market. City specific foods such as cheese steak (cheesesteaks), pretzels (soft pretzels) and "hoagies (sandwiches with an Italian bun, meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and a bit of oregano) reflect the range of traditions of the city.
 
   Philadelphia is also a gateway for those who go to Pennsylvania Dutch colony west, north to ski in the Pocono Mountains and southeast to penindula Delaware and Atlantic beaches. By 1987 William Penn statue, symbol of the city, perched atop City Hall was the tallest structure in the town. While Penn still enjoys a wide view, lifting the Liberty One office building gave the city a wider view, for the XXI century.
