When Kaohsiung (Taiwan) was elected host city of The World Games 2009 (Olympic complementary competition in which they are promoted sports included in the Olympic program), local organizers have immediately started the construction of an arena worthy of the great event. After only two years of construction, the result is an impressive arena with a capacity of 55,000 seats, whose author is famous Japanese architect Toyo Ito.
Beyond its special shape and the spiral architecture of the skin reminiscent of a dragon, The World Games Stadium in Kaohsiung is remarkable in that it uses 100% solar energy, thanks to the integrated solar roof panels 8844. They produce an annual average of 1.14 million kWh, which allows a reduction of 660 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere from conventional plants. Excess electricity produced will be paid to the national grid power, against considerable sums. Stadium, along with all adjacent facilities, cost about 180 million U.S. dollars.
