San Telmo Palace



  

  Palacio de San Telmo, built in the 17th century to serve as a school for navigators, especially the entrance stands a very ornamented baroque. After having served as a school for navigators and then a wealth of other purposes, the building has grown to be the official residence of President Andalusia.

 
  Palacio de San Telmo was built in 1682 as a college for "mareantes" (navigators). It was designed in a baroque Spanish exuberant acclaimed local architect Leonardo de Figueroa. This was helped by his son Antonio Matias. The palace is named after St. Telmo, patron saint of seafarers.
 
  School was closed in 1847 and two years later the building was sold to Antoine d'Orleans, Duke of Montpensier, who has made a palace or residence. In 1893 Princess Marie Louise d'Orleans gave the Seville city, huge gardens of the palace, which was used to host the 1929 exhibition. Today the area is a huge park that could name Maria Luisa Park. Princess and donated the palace, which is assigned to host a church seminary. In 1989, the building owner changed again, this time reaching the autonomous government of Andalusia property. Today, San Telmo Palace is the official residence of President autonomous community of Andalusia.
 
  The most remarkable part of the palace is richly decorated entrance. Completed in 1734 by Antonio Matias Figueroa, this entry stands out by its sculpted columns. The statues that are found on either side of the balcony is the art and science. At the top level there is a statue of Saint Telmo framed by an open archway. On the left there is the statue of St Hermenegild statues and a right of St. Ferdinand. A spiral facade crowns this impressive entrance.
 
  Facade on Avenida de Palos de la Frontera is decorated with 12 statues of important figures in history such as Murillo Seville city and Velazquez (famous painters) and Rodrigo Ponce de Leon, a military leader during regain Granada in 1492. Life-size statues are the work of Antonio Susillo and were mounted on the building in 1895.
