France has won a reputation for eco-friendly country. President, Nicolas Sarkozy has pushed for the enactment of legislation in the field to conserve energy and the environment. His plans include: forbidden and renovating buildings to reduce heat consumption, reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by 2020, increasing the percentage of renewable energy from 9% to 20-25%, increasing the number of organic farms, creating organizations to study genetically modified crops.
