The Oberalp Pass is a fantastic road that runs in the gorgeous alpine Swiss Alps in Switzerland. The connection between the central part of the country with the Graubunden Oberland region is made by a majestic road that is very famous in Europe. The Oberalp Pass is opened only during the summer months. The Oberalp Pass unites Central Switzerland with Graubunden in the east. Coming from Central Switzerland you can stop to Andermatt, and it is only 11 km to the pass head with a height difference of under 600 metres, including an easy climb with a gradient of about 10%. Before getting to the top of the pass the road runs through an avalanche gallery and then the lake rises up into this splendid panorama. From the pass, the road goes down to Tujetsch, a municipal area in the district of Surselva in Canton Graubunden which features the village of Sedrun.
With 2,044 meters above the sea level the pass is crossed by a road and the Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn. The railway is opened the year-round and it is protected of snow and avalanches by many tunnels and galleries . Between autumn and winter season the pass is almost abandoned and it is very unique and untouched. The military barracks that are designed near the station, the cold, the silence and the solitude remind of some remote siberian mining locations, ofering a peaceful and tranquil ambiance, perfect for relaxation.
