The construction of the road started in August 1983 and  it took till the 1989 to be completed. The tourist will find this amazing road in the south of Kristiansund, but as a passenger on the Hurtigruten he can usually have the posibility to take a bus tour to experience the road. This road is fantastic, both in sunny weather as well as in real stormy days. It is 8,3 km long, constructed on many small islands, comprising 8 bridges and numerous landfillls.

 

 

It provides an open-sea-view, making the road become a spectacular and popular touristic attraction of the region. In 2005 the Atlantic Road was voted by the  Norwegian Construction of the Century, representing the second most visited scenic road after the well-known Trollstigen. Also the great panorama is a splendour of wildlife such as seals and whales, and the not so good weather conditions can often offer water shows crashing against the rocks as you drive.
