Trollstigen is a magnificent road situated in the very heart of Romsdal, being one of the most visited attractions in Norway. No doubt that this is the most popular piece of road in the country. Trollstigen was officially opened in July 1936, after a long construction period that took 8 years. For many centuries, this old road has been an excellent link between Romsdalen and Sunnmøre, and even today the road is an ideal example of the engineering art. The road is closed  during the winter times and it is opened in May or June, depending on snow conditions. The tourists can admire the breathtaking views  walking down the historical Kløvstigen path.

The mountains which encircle the Trollstigen road are huge and spectacular. Their names like Kongen, Dronningen and Bispen are a confirmation  of their popularity in this mountainous world.
The Stigfossen waterfall is gushing down the mountainside towards the majestic Isterdalen valley.  Trollstigen road winds its way up to the mountainside, being a very attractive road in the middle of this scenery. Trollstigen is the ideal starting point for nature activities and interesting experiences.
Trollstigen was officially opened on the 31st of July 1936 during the reign of King Haakon VII. Its construction lasted 8 years. On the steep sides of the mountains  this majestic road does a total of 11 bends up to Stigrøra. Some sectors of the road are cut and beautifully designed into the rockface, or else it is carefully founded on the natural stone foundations.
This narrow road has an inclination of about 9%, featuring  many bends and open drops representing a truly challenge. To drive on this spectacular road you must be a professional and skilled driver. The vehicles that are over 12.4 metres long are not allowed on Trollstigen. Here you are discouraged to drive with a trailer or caravan. This road is liable to avalanche and sometimes it may be  very dangerous. This road is a truly majestic destination for those who love the exciting adventures.  Unique and unforgettable landscapes are opened in front of the tourists.  The walkers and all the tourists will enjoy lovely moments in a delightful ambiance here.
