Their name is the synonymous of the refined and beautiful clown. They were extremely talented, funny and kind.

The Fratellini brothers were born in Russia.

The clown number “Brothers Fratellini” was created in Tveri in the Circus Bezano. The partner of the Gustav Fratellini quarreled with him and Bezano proposed to Gustav to make a number with his sons. The father and the sons began to prepare the number, that was the beginning of a brilliant career for the talented clowns who are known throughout the world. The brothers Fratellini went abroad and became  the leaders of the Paris art circus.

Once the Francois Fratellini entertained the audience in a funny method, falling into a cake with whipped cream. The cream was of soap suds. The clown forgot to be careful and he was taken to hospital with severe poisoning. His brother, Albert Fratellini, debuted at the circus at the age of four. He was inside of a huge egg, which he had to ride along to the stage on a signal. The egg did not move at the necessary time because of Albert who fell asleep. It was so amusing that the audience applauded louder than usual.

The daughter of one of the brothers, Annie, became a famous French clown and founded the world famous school Fratellini. Annie Frantellini was the first female circus clown in France. She was an unforgettable clown.

The director Fellini shot his famous film “The Clowns”, which is about the brothers Fratellini. Their name is mentioned in “Tropic of Capricorn” by Henry Miller.
