One of the most treasured waterfalls in Iceland is Gullfoss waterfall, which lies in the Hvita river. This beautiful waterfall offers a crazy view, with a wonderful fall, of about 32 metres, displayed in two steps. We can certainly admit that this amazing waterfall is the most beautiful in Iceland, with an underground formed by basalt and rocks, situated in the Southern side of the country. Located in the interior of the Hvita canyon, it offers stunning views, fascinating the visitors for its beauty and size. The waterfall is divided in two tiered waterfalls, the first one reaches a lenght of about 11 m, while the second one drops 21m. The waterfall is an important part of the Golden Circle Tour and Route, as the third major attraction on this route, that you can explore in only one day, while outside of the capital. Due to the powerfull desire of using it for hydrolectricty, the waterfall was going to disappear, because there are various interests for using its water. Due to the lack of funds, the tryings were unsuccessfully managed, and the falls were sold to the country of Iceland. The importance of the fall grew and it was conserved, and tried to preserve its beauty and powerfull importance.
An interesting legend relates a very interesting story, when the Gullfoss was saved from the hydroelectric electricity, due to a young girl threatened that she will throw herself in the waterfall. The deal didn’t go through, and it was transformed in a national monument. The waterfall opens a spectacular view, spreading the water away, so the tourists should wear a raincoat. When the sun is shining it favors the appearance of the rainbow, creating an overwhelming view. This scenary is majestic, full of mistery. The volume of the water that is spreaded out is about 80-140 cubic metres per second. The atmosphere is really incredible, with an unseparable spectacle of coulours and motion, offering an exciting experience. By the waterfall is located a visitor center, a giftshop, and a restaurant where the guests can enjoy a lovely time, refreshing themselves, looking for souvenirs or delighting their stomach with the delicious Icelandic lamb soup. This experience is truly fascinating and enchants everyone that takes this pleasure. Gullfoss opens majestic moments, in an unrepeatable ambiance, listen to the silent whispear of the water.
