Laki craters  is a truly fascinating place, which includes spectacular craters, very strange mountains, lakes, creating a colourful nature. In June 1783, the Laki craters erupted  ,that created a lot of damages to Europe,  fumigated many parts of  Europe with volcanic gases and volcanic particles. This volcanic cloud implied  a very strange climatic meteorologic anomalies, represented by very hot summer in 1783, and stringent winter time. The Laki’s eruptions are included in the worst disaster for the nature, reshaping the pitoresque landscapes of Iceland, realising outside over 30 billion tons of lava, and dangerous gases for the health, causing the “haze famine” that killed thousands of Iceladers. The eruption from 1783 created a 25 metres long volcanic fissure, including over 100 crater cones. 

 

 

  The whole mass of lava that erupted is considered the largest one in the last historical time, with a mass covering over 565 square kilometers. The Laki craters are 20-50 metres tall , the tallest one stand at about 100 metres high, being visible through the surroundings. The material of the craters are black and red scoria, some of them are even made of solid lava. The Laki crater formed during the years 1783-1784, having the name dedicated to the central peak of the area, Laki. At the southern side of the crater lies the mountain Hnuta, where has been opened the first fissure. The lava that comes out from the Laki craters  cover an area of about 0.5% of the Iceland’s area. It is running out in two branches, the western branch is called Eldhraun, the eastern branch is called Brunuhraun. This picturesque region  relates unrepeatable landscapes, with amazing sightseeings.
