National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History as founded in October 1889 by initiative of Baron A. Stuart.
 
It is the oldest museum in Moldova and was founded as an Agricultural Museum, but over time its existence has gradually extended its field of work, creating collections that reflect the natural history, contemporary nature, evolution of human society and traditional culture from the Bassarabian territory  later...
 
The name of museum has changed for several times however the main idea of the name  had never changed. The building of museum was constructed in 1903-1905. Nowadays the museum is an important scientific and cultural center of Republic of Moldova which is also known abroad.
 
The museum currently holds an endowment of about 135 thousand pieces including  numerous exhibitions that highlight the natural riches of the region, animal and plant world, and of course reflect the occupations of the population. Parts of the museum's collections were presented at various exhibitions in many countries from Europe, Asia, America and Africa.
 
The museum includes geological, paleontological, zoological, entomological, archaeological ethnographic and numismatic collections. The museum also has its own botanical garden which was founded in 1906. It was the first botanical garden in Moldova and it exists till nowadays.
 
Among the showpieces of museum there are also the unique pieces like the skeleton of an giant dinosaur who lived during the Pliocene Epoch (5.3 million to 1.8 million years before present). The skeleton was discovered in 1966.

The museum has a temporary exhibition hall which displays various exhibitions from their property and from other museums.
