Vancouver Art Gallery is famous for historic and contemporary art, imressioning everybody for its gorgeous collections of Canadian art. The building was founded in 1911 as a courthouse. In 1983 its became a local Museum of Art. it was designed by a famous architect, Francis Rattenbury, decorated in a neoclassical style.The gallery holds over 9,000 pieces of art, including a significant collection of paintings and works made on paper, some of it belonging to Emily Carr. The gallery host two or three international exhibitions year around.
The building is covered by marble, including decorated stonework, ionic columns with a central dome. In front of the building visitors can see the lions, that are a copy of those from the Trafalgar Square in London. A spectacular beauty gives the fountain also that was designed in 1966 in the honor of the union between British Columbia and Vancouver Island. In 1970 the gallery had some changes , made by the architect Arthur Erickson, who renowed the place. In 1983 the ex-courthouse became the Vancouver Art Museum.

The museum include over 80,000 pieces of art hosted by gallery which was moved in another location and includes work of Canadian artists or international artists.
