San Francisco’s Palace of Arts is an exceptional monument that was built as a exhibiton dedicated to Panama Canal that was completed. It was designed by the architect Bernard R.Maybeck, who choose a 3 acre area for the palace construction. The area is surrounded by a lagoon that served to reflect the beauty of the building that supposed to appear. The architecture is inspired from the Greek and Roman architecture and give a specific look to the palace.
The palace exclusive rotunda and the 8 colonnades were framed in wood . This piece of art is composed from 1100 foot pergola, an arch supported by rows forming a wide walkway . During the time the palace was the house for art exhibits for truck during the World War II. It was designed to resemble a roman ruin that would reflect in the water of the lagoon. Anyway it seems to be the ideal place for wedding photography or for marriage proposal, even for picnincs. This is the perfect spot to see the white swans that live on a large lawn that borders the lagoon. The Palace of Fine Arts is magnificent during the night when all the light are turned on, the atmosphere is enigmatic, full of charm.
Palace of Fine Arts houses the Exploratorium which is a small science museum that is open since 1969. This museum has a very enigmatic history, being the brainchild of Frank Oppenheimer, known as a famous physicist who gave the idea to built such a museum to learn people everything about science. The Exploratorium give the opportunity to see a large number of touchable displays that teach the tourists about physical world. It is a great pleasure to take a break and visit this exceptional place, The Palace of Fine Arts with its exclusive nature, and the Exploratotium that leave a unique experience and a great impression on you. This old masterpiece dates since 1915 and deserves to be seen by everyone that comes for the first time in San Francisco.
