Rousse is one of the largest cities in Bulgaria and the biggest city in the country on the bank of the Danube River and the Rusenski Lom river. It is situated 320 km from Sofia and 203 km from Varna. Due to its original architecture and the country’s largest port, the Ruse city is also known as the small Vienna. Rousse is an old Bulgarian town with selected culture, education, arts and with developed industry and trade.
Rousse is considered the most European Bulgarian town. There are a large variety of cultural and historical places and constructions with are included in The UNESCO’s World Heritance List. The Freedom Monument is the symbol of the city, built by Arnoldo Tsokki. The city will amaze you with its wonderful landscapes and green areas. The Forest Park Lipnick is a venue for tourists with restaurants, cafes, alleys and other facilities. The Natural Park ensembles the River Valley Roussenski and the Cherni Lom region. This area is located 20 km south of Rousse. It is the perfect place for climbers. The Mountaineer center provides sports activities and also other attractions for tourists.
Rousse city is also known as the museum city. The Pantheon of the Renaissance, the City’s historical museum, Baba Tonka museum, The National museum of transport and communications, The Leventabiya fortress, The door of Mitiriza, Mahamudova Column, The St. Trinity Church and the Flotilla fortress, St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Museum of the city’s style standards in the Kaliopa’s house, The Leventabia Fortress, Battanberg Palace, and the Old Theatre are also attractions in the city. The Friendship Bridge on the Danube River is the official border between Bulgaria and Romania.
In Rousse you will find a national Bulgarian cuisine, with a international flavor according to the city's cultural history. If you are interested in opera, classical music, you should visit the Rousse Philharmonic Orchestra, the Rousse State Opera.
