Brunei is a state located in Southeast Asia, on the north coast of the Borneo Island. It is bordered by the South China Sea, Sarawak and Malaysia. Although it is a small country, Brunei has one of the highest living standards in the world, due to considerable oil and gas reserves.
Nowadays, Brunei has set one of its main objectives to develop tourism so that it would become a major source of income for the country's GDP. There was established the campaign "Visit Brunei Year 2008” in order to promote tourism. Brunei is a country rich in vegetation and fauna, nature being one the main attraction for tourists. Visitors will be impressed also by the grandeur of the Islamic art, royal traditions and architectural wealth. In 1999 there were registered 405,532 tourists in the country. Note that the sale and consumption of alcohol is not allowed in Brunei.
Among the major attractions in Brunei, there are: Bandar Seri Begawan - the only city in Brunei; Jerudong - park for outdoor activities (polo, golf), it can be visited only by invitation, since this park is the recreation are of the Sultan; Jerudong Park Playground - entertainment park offered by the Sultan to the nation in 1994; Tasek Merimbun - the park where the largest lake in Brunei is found; Ulu Temburong National Park –while visiting this national park, it is recommended to be accompanied by a specialized guide.
Weather in Brunei is stable, being warm and humid throughout the year. September-January is the season when the weather becomes warmer and more humid. Ramadan holiday period should be avoided because most tourist areas are closed.
