About 162 km to the south-west of Havana, the lively city of Pinar del Rio is located. The city streets are crowded with cyclists and prams; neoclassical colonnades along the way offer the city a specific charm.
Among the largest cities of Cuba, Pinar del Rio was founded later than the remaining ones, being founded in 1669. Due to the General Antonio Maceo, the city joined the second war of independence in 1896. The governments of that time unfortunately neglected the city, but after the revolution there was build the highway linking the city with Havana, followed by many other developments.
Pinar del Rio major attractions are: Museum of Natural Science Sandalio de Noda, the Provincial History Museum, Fabrica de Bebidas Casa Garay, Fabrica de Tabacos Franciso Donatien, Jose Jacinto Milanes Theatre. In early one ought to visit the city –for the carnival, decorated cars ride on the streets, while crowds dance on the music.
