Highgate Cemetery originates from the Victorian era and is acknowledged as one of the most famous tourist sights in London. It is located on a hill, in an elegant district of north London. Highgate Cemetery in London is a fascinating place because of its location in a wooded area. Thus, burial tombs and crypts are surrounded by trees, ferns and wildflowers.

Over 850 personalities found their eternal peace here. The cemetery consists of a collection of graves of people of different nationalities - in addition to English and Irish, there can be found Polish, Italians, Greeks, Arabs, Chinese, Japanese, Iranians. The tombs are in a very poor condition, probably due to the soil, which makes many of them to be plugged into the ground, even after relatively short periods after the funeral. The cemetery contains the graves of famous personalities such as Michael Faraday, famous physicist; the novelist George Eliot and, more recently, the former KGB agent, who became the opponent of the Putin regime, Alexander Litvinenko. But the most famous monument that can be found in Highgate cemetery is certainly the tomb of Karl Marx.

Father of dialectical and historical materialism is by far the most famous tenant ever of the cemetery in London. The funerary monument, with Marx's enormous head and the inscription "Workers of all countries unite," was built in 1954 with the funds of the British Communist Party and in 1970 was the target of an unsuccessful act with a homemade bomb.
