Lake District was also a place of inspiration and creativity for many artists, from Thomas Gray (1716-1771), pre-romantic poet, and continuing with today's artists. The region is much sung in the poems of William Wordsworth (1770-1850), who spent part of his youth in Grasmere and in 1810 he published the work of the Guide through the Lakes District.
