Horta Museum

Horta Museum in Brussels is not a traditional museum, in the true sense - a building where objects exposed to attract attention. Horta Museum is a little backwards: it is the museum building itself. Horta Museum was actually the house that Victor Horta built it for himself in late 1890. It is an excellent example of architectural style that made Horta one of Belgium's most respected architects.

Art Nouveau style was very popular in Europe, and especially in Brussels between 1893 and 1918. Its characteristics are the use of industrial materials such as iron and steel on visible sides of buildings and furnishings inspired by nature and on building facades, decorative mosaics. Many of these features "can be found in building Horta Museum. In this house one can see the great innovations of Horta: the rooms are built around a central hall. The glass ceiling light enters the house and offers a lot more natural light than in building traditional houses from the late 19th century in Brussels and Belgium.

This style has many names depending on the country: Jungenstil Germanic countries, liberty style or modern style Modernist Estilo UK and Spain.

Victor Horta was born in 1861 in Ghent, Belgium. After studying in Paris, he settled in Brussels and continued to study at the Academy of Fine Arts.
