Atomium is located near Mini-Europe Park (park which has buildings minatura of some tourist attractions across Europe at a scale of 1:25), near King Baudouin Stadium. Is a structure that represents a unit of a crystal of iron. The attractions of Brussels has nine steel spheres (originally were made of aluminum) linked together by tunnels, along the 12 edges of the cube. Intraga structure has a height of 102 meters and 18 meters in diameter spheres. Its stability is ensured by three pairs of poles for support.

Atomium was built for the World Exhibition in 1958 which was hosted by Brussels. It was designed by Andre Waterkeyn. Central sphere was called by its name. Architects were André and Jean Polak. Originally it was intended that only structure to remain standing during the exhibition - on April 17 until October 19, 1958. The success and popularity enjoyed this resulted in permanent structures, which today has become an important tourist attraction of Brussels.

Atomium was closed for almost two years, between 2004 and 2006 for renovations. During this period films were replaced with aluminum, steel and some interiors have been restored.
